Ministry

The Youth Ministry meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month and is made up of youth and adults who work in partnership to develop and implement a balanced youth program in the areas of worship, service, study, fellowship, and mission for youth in Middle School (6th-8th grades), High School (9th-12th grades) and college. Teach Middle School Sunday School

Teachers will teach sixth and seventh graders for one or two semesters (depending on the availability of the teacher), with at least one other teacher for the class. Curriculum is provided. Please select Z00 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Teach High School Sunday School

Teachers will teach ninth through twelfth graders for at least one consecutive month (or more, depending on the availability of the teacher). At least one other teacher will help with the class. Curriculum is provided. Please select Z01 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Teach Confirmation Class

This class for 8th grade students takes place from September until mid-March. At least one other teacher will help with the class. Please select Z02 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Serve as a Confirmation Mentor

Mentors are partnered one-on-one with an 8th grade Confirmand for support and guidance through the Confirmation program, which typically runs from September to March and includes four to six planned activities. Please select Z03 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Serve as a Youth Advisor

Advisors help plan and assist with Sunday night and/or Wednesday night youth fellowship during the school year and summer and occasionally help with other events such as lock-ins and retreats as time allows. Please select Z04 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Meals for Sunday Night Fellowship

Volunteers are needed to make and serve meals to all youth on Sunday evenings. Please select Z05 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Coach a Basketball Team

Our church basketball league runs from January through mid-March. Games are usually held twice a week. If there is any interest from our church youth we will participate in the league. Please select Z06 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Youth Spring Musical

Many adult volunteers are needed to help with the show. Opportunities include: help with programs and publicity, set construction, props, costumes and make-up, concessions, ticket sales, other production talents, and the cast party. Food is also needed for the cast and crew during rehearsals. Please select Z07 to Z14 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Chaperone Trips or Special Events

Volunteers will be contacted with dates for trips throughout the year. Possible trips include weekend Presbytery retreats, ski trip, Montreat Senior High conference, Mo Ranch Jr. High Conference and a mission trip. Please select Z15 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Mission Trips

Volunteers are needed to help plan meaningful outreach opportunities for middle school & High School youth during the summer. Please select Z16 on your Time & Talents Covenant. Volunteers are also needed to help chaperone this week-long activity in mid-August. Please select Z17 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Host a Party or Event

Homes are needed for pool parties, progressive dinners and other small group events. If you are able to open your home and serve as host for a youth event, please select Z18 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

SPY (Second Presbyterian Youth) Kick-off Event in September

Adult volunteers are needed to help run this annual event, which has traditionally been a Parking Lot Party. Please select Z19 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Halloween Carnival

The Carnival, which is usually held the Sunday evening before Halloween, is for the enjoyment of children. Youth do much of the planning and implementation, but adult help is needed in the planning process and during the Carnival itself. Please select Z20 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

End of Year Banquet

During the End of Year Banquet, we welcome 5th graders to the youth program and say farewell to graduating Seniors. Families of youth are also invited. Help is needed is the planning process, as well as during the event itself. Please select Z21 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Transportation

Occasionally, the youth participate in activities offsite, and a number of adult drivers are needed to transport them. Drivers would be called on several times a year to pick youth up and transport them. Please select Z22 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Chaperone a Lock-in

Lock-ins for youth take place a few times a year and usually involve lots of fun and little sleep. Adults are invited to join in the fun! Please select Z23 on your Time & Talents Covenant.

Help Plan the Youth Scholarship Fundraiser

The Youth Scholarship Fund assures that all youth are able to participate in youth trips and activities regardless of their financial situation. Help plan these occasional fundraisers to replenish this fund. Please select Z24 on your Youth Time & Talents Covenant.

Take Pictures

Help track SPY history by taking pictures and keeping up with them. Please select Z25 on your Youth Time & Talents Covenant.

College Connections

Interested in helping our Second Presbyterian college students continue to feel loved and cared for even while away?
