Youth are welcome and encouraged to sign up for activities listed throughout this booklet, as well as the following opportunities available especially for Second Presbyterian Church youth in grades 6-12. Serve on a Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry plans, coordinates and implements all youth programming at Second Presbyterian. It is made up of youth and adults and meets monthly.
Serve on Other Ministries
Read about the work and responsibilities of all the ministries of Second Presbyterian. Contact the moderator or Jen Evans to get plugged into a ministry.
Serve on the Presbytery Youth Council (PYC)
Members in grades 9 to 12 are invited to serve on this council, which is made up of youth and adult Presbyterians from all over Arkansas. They gather about four times a year to plan events and make decisions about Presbytery youth programming. An application must be filled out in late April/ early May.
Serve as a Liturgist
Senior high students are invited to serve as liturgists during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship services. Materials will be provided.
Serve as an Acolyte, Beadle, or Cross Bearer
Grades 5-8 students are invited to light candles (acolyte) and carry the Bible (beadle) and processional cross (cross bearer) into the sanctuary at the beginning of 11:00 a.m. worship service on Sunday mornings.
Serve on Second Presbyterian Youth Council
Members in grades 6-12 are invited to serve on this council, which is made up of youth involved in the Second Presbyterian Youth (SPY) program. They meet monthly to give feedback about the current programming and help make decisions about, future programming. An application must be filled out each year before August.
This choir is for students in grades 6 to 12, and activities include worship leadership, retreats, concerts, touring and local musical events. Directed by Dr. Bevan Keating. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15 p.m.
This ensemble is for students in grades 6 to 12 who have some experience with ringing and are interested in a range of musical styles and difficulties. Directed by Mary Ibis. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Spring Musical Cast
Rehearsals run January through early March, and the performances are one weekend in March.
Spring Musical Crew
Technical crew and stage crew members commit to coming to all rehearsals during Tech Week (the week before the show), as well as each performance (usually in early March).
Participate in mission and outreach projects in Little Rock throughout the year as needed.
Youth Caring for Youth
Help care for other youth. You will be contacted when your help is needed.
Help track SPY history by taking pictures and uploading them to our share site.
Make Bulletin Boards
Help keep the SPY bulletin board up to date and occasionally make posters to publicize events and other happenings.
Play on a Youth Basketball Team
Our church basketball league season runs from January to mid-March. There is a 7th/8th grade league, a 9th/10th grade league, and an 11th/12th grade league. Games are usually twice a week.
Help Plan the Youth Scholarship Fundraiser
The Youth Scholarship Fund assures that all youth are able to participate in youth trips and activities regardless of their financial situation. Help plan the annual Fundraiser to replenish this fund.
Help Plan the End of Year Banquet
The Banquet will be held on a Sunday in May and will include dinner for youth and families, as well as a short program.
Help Plan Summer Mission Trip
This group will make plans for the High School or Middle School mission trip, including decisions about the date, place, project and activities.
